Picking A Good Pos System

Picking a Good POS System

Every good business needs a point of sale (POS) system to keep track of all of their transactions. A typical POS system consists of the main cash register POS hardware computer, a cash drawer, barcode scanner, receipt printer, a pole display and a monitor. One recent development in POS systems are touch screen monitors that make it easier by just having to touch the screen for what you want instead of having to remember different codes.

Choosing a good POS system is one of the most important things when establishing a new business. Good POS equipment will help you to serve your customers better and more effectively, by keeping more accurate inventory as well as providing you with valuable reporting features and streamlining the checkout process at the point of sale. A POS system not only handles cash transactions, but can integrate credit card transactions as well that can eliminate the costly terminal fees you are used to paying for.

POS Software is a just as an important choice as the POS hardware you use. POS software can maintain an unlimited number of products in its database and work with or without barcodes that work with your barcode scanners, set price levels by customer, quantity or promotion. POS software is compatible with regular monitors as well as touch screen monitors. POS software can run sales and inventory reports for you and support integration of data files and manage receivables.

When setting up your POS hardware and software, you need a basic network. Pretty much all POS systems require an internet connection. You should also have a back office computer and/or POS system that runs the same POS software. The reason for that is so the manager can check reports, do the accounting, receivables from the back office without interrupting operations on the sales floor. The back office POS computer should have all the network cabling connecting into a switch/router as well as a backup power supply and a network attached storage device for backing up your data. Once all this is setup your business should be streamlined and ready to go.
